The next time you visit your doctor or dentist ask then for some small latex gloves. Cut the fingertips off of the gloves and then use them while practicing. This works much better than weights and is a lot less expensive. The smaller the gloves the better...They should fit very tightly.

Rob: I'm not a physical therapist, so I don't have a good answer to that. I will say, though, that my technique has never been dynamite (lots of curling the thumb around the neck, &c) and I haven't had any of the problems you speculate about.

To be totally honest, this was my first thought when I heard about these finger weights. I'm sure they're no trouble if you're technique is already good, but what if you're using the wrong muscles to start with?

Surely they would just create more tension and injury if your technique is already bad? So they're not good for your technique, just your strength?

I've not tried them, so I don't know. That's just how it seems to me.

Dear Ace,
I agree with Brad, You obviously have an underlying medical condition responsible for your pain. Get to a hand specialist ASAP. Thank goodness the weights may be a blessing in disguise and raised a red flag to your condition.
Good luck,
Steve

Ace -

Wow. I haven't heard of anything like that before.

Question: Did you start at a low resistance, and work up? Or did you go straight to full weight?

Also: If it's that easy to cause shooting pain in your hand, you might want to check in with your physician. I don't know what you do for work, but I'd be worried that this was an RSI symptom.

hey, i got these weights for my left hand (guitar)
they really messed up my hand for a week. I mustve used them for 15 to 30 minutes at the most.

shooting pain throughout my hand. Couldnt even touch the guitar for a week!
